The Presidency of Religious Affairs has been providing spiritual guidance services through certain protocols with various institutions as a result of the importance attached to services outside the-mosque in addition to its services inside-the-mosque. Prisons are among such institutions. Since 1950s, there have been attempts of varying natures to provide religious services in prisons. With the signing of the new cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Justice and the Presidency of Religious Affairs in 2011, the scope of services provided was further expanded and spiritual guidance services were started to be offered in addition to the religious services provided to prisoners. In this framework, in-depth interviews were conducted with six spiritual counselors working/worked in prisons in Kayseri. Descriptive analysis technique was used in the analysis of the obtained data. The fi ndings were evaluated in light of the relevant literature, and various suggestions were given in the conclusion part.
