Abstract
With the first revelation in Hira Cave in 610, Prophet Muhammad (saw) started to convey the orders and prohibitions he received from Allah (swt). However, from the moment he started performing his duty of prophethood, he faced the hostile attitudes of different faith groups such as Jews and Christians, especially the Meccan polytheists. Sometimes these hostilities went beyond verbal insults and turned into actual attacks, sometimes as attempts to eliminate him through assassinations. In this context, according to the basic sources, many attempts were made to assassinate Prophet Muhammad (saw) during his twenty-three years of prophethood. One of them is the attempt made on the return of Tabûk Campaign in the 9th year of the Migration (Hijra). However, the point that distinguishes this incident from other similarities is the claim by some circles that this attempt was made by "some people from the Companions". In this study, the basis of the aforementioned claim and its value in terms of the information contained in basic siyer-megazî and historical works will be examined. On the other hand, it is aimed to reveal the historical validity of the information that the assassination attempt was not carried out by the Companions, but by hypocrites as stated in some basic sources.
