The discipline of ikhtilāf al-hadīth deals with the issue of seemingly contradicting narrations and contradictions between maqbūl narrations, has a crucial role in the sciences of hadīth and it deserves to be examined from different perspectives because it closely concerns other fields the narrations are related to. This study deals with the issue of women’s travel without a mahram by highlighting the narrations about the subject as well as the contradictions between them and examines the narrations in the context of the discipline of ikhtilāf al-hadīth. In the article, the controversial narrations about the issue mentioned in Sharḥ maʿānī al-āthār of Ṭaḥāwī (d. 321/933) were taken as basis, focusing on how these narrations were evaluated in ikhtilāf al-hadīth. Ikhtilāf al-hadīth of Imām Shāfi‘ī (d. 204/820) is also included in order to reveal how the related issue is handled in the literature of ikhtilāf al-hadīth in order to determine the issues that cause conflict in the narrations about the woman’s travel without a mahram. In the article, in addition to the fundamental commentaries and fiqh books, some contemporary studies have been taken into account in order to be examples of works from different literature that examine the subject based on the conflict in the narrations.
