Masjid al-Aqsa is one of the three masjids that Muslims consider sacred. Many hadiths have been narrated from the Prophet Muhammad about the virtue of visiting Masjid al-Aqsa, performing their worships in this masjid. Muslims who wanted to attain the good virtues in the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad went to Jerusalem and Masjid al-Aqsa whenever they could find the opportunity throughout history and performed their worships there. They showed respect to the authorities of the prophets who were in and around Jerusalem and the places narrated to be related to them, and they mostly made it a habit to visit these places during their visit to Jerusalem. The hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad on the virtues of worship performed in Masjid al-Aqsa were also studied by the al-fuqahā [jurists], and various rulings were established on these hadiths. The subject of the first part of this study is these rulings contained in Fiqh books. In the second part of the study, discussions about the legitimacy of the visits to the places related to the prophets in the vicinity of Masjid al-Aqsa and to the tomb of Prophet Abraham, and the reliability of narrations about these places are addressed.
