YAHYA KEMAL’İN MEHLİKA SULTAN’A ÂŞIK YEDİ GENÇ ŞİİRİNDE ÖLÜMCÜL ANİMA VE SEMBOLİK YAPI

Abstract

Bu makale, Yahya Kemal’in Mehlika Sultan’a Âşık Yedi Genç şiirini derinlik psikolojisi perspektifinden sembolik bir çözümlemeye tabi tutmayı amaçlamaktadır. Şiir, geleneksel yorumlarda çoğunlukla idealize edilmiş bir aşk ve yüce arayış anlatısı olarak değerlendirilmiş; Mehlika Sultan figürü ulaşılmaz güzelliğin ve estetik idealleştirmenin sembolü şeklinde yorumlanmıştır. Bu çalışma ise, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar’ın şiirdeki su imgesi üzerinden işaret ettiği ölüm temasını kuramsal bir çerçeveye yerleştirerek metni Jungcu derinlik psikolojisi bağlamında yeniden ele almaktadır. Bu doğrultuda Mehlika figürü, erkeğin bilinçdışında beliren ve yıkıcı biçimde işleyen bir anima kişileşmesi olarak yorumlanmıştır. Şiirde yer alan rüya, hayal, çağrı, yolculuk, su ve kuyu imgeleri bilinçdışı arzunun yönlendirici etkisini gösteren sembolik bir bütünlük içinde incelenmiştir. Özellikle “çıkrığı yok kuyu” imgesi, bilincin geri dönüşsüz biçimde çözülmesini simgeleyen eşik olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Sonuç olarak çalışma, Mehlika Sultan’a Âşık Yedi Genç şiirinin idealize edilmiş bir aşk anlatısından ziyade, bilinçdışı arzunun ayartıcı çağrısına teslimiyetle sonuçlanan karanlık bir sembolik yapı sunduğunu ileri sürmektedir.

The Deadly Anima and Symbolic Structure in Yahya Kemal’s “MEHLİKA SULTAN’A ÂŞIK YEDİ GENÇ”

Abstract

This article aims to provide a symbolic analysis of Yahya Kemal’s poem Mehlika Sultan’a Âşık Yedi Genç within the framework of depth psychology. In traditional interpretations, the poem has generally been read as an exalted narrative of love, idealism, and the pursuit of unattainable beauty, with Mehlika Sultan understood as an idealized aesthetic figure. Departing from this dominant interpretive line, the present study revisits Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar’s insight, which associates the poem’s water imagery with death, and situates this observation within a systematic Jungian theoretical framework. Focusing on the anima archetype, the article interprets Mehlika as a destructive manifestation of the anima emerging from the male unconscious. The poem’s symbolic network—composed of dream, fantasy, call, journey, water, and the image of the well—is analyzed as a coherent structure representing the gradual dissolution of consciousness under the influence of unconscious desire. Particular attention is given to the image of the “well without a windlass,” which is interpreted as an irreversible threshold at which consciousness loses its autonomy and becomes fully absorbed by the unconscious. The study concludes that Mehlika Sultan’a Âşık Yedi Genç should be understood not as an idealizing love narrative, but as a dark symbolic representation of surrender to unconscious desire, culminating in psychic dissolution and death.
