Hüseyin Serbes:
Stuart Hall argues that “no archive arises out of thin air” (2001, p. 89) and sees the archive as a creative
entity in an unending state of becoming. For some time now, I have been researching in the London College
of Communication’s special archive at Elephant and Castle, a collection that constantly encourages new work
in a dialogical relationship. In the library and private archive, the first part that caught my eye and excited
me in the ‘living archive’ as theorised by Hall was ‘subcultures’. How would you define subcultures?
