A Practice for the Factors Affecting the Digital Divide: Panel Data GMM Analyses

Abstract

In this study, the concept of “digital divide” was explained with its reasons and types; and it was aimed to identify the factors that lead to a digital divide in developed and developing countries and to calculate the IDI index. Dynamic panel regression analysis, which covered the period between 1995 and 2013, was used for 20 developed and 16 developing countries. In all models, per capita income was found significant in explaining the digital divide. In addition quality of laws, and city population were found significant in the developed country. Electricity consumption per capita, and age dependency ratio were found significant in the developing countries

Dijital Bölünmeyi Etkileyen Faktörler Üzerine Bir Uygulama: Panel Veri GMM Analizleri

Abstract

Bu çalışmada gelişmiş ve gelişmekte olan ülkelerde dijital bölünmeye neden olan faktörlerin belirlenmesi ve IDI endeksinin hesaplanması amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmada 20 gelişmiş ve 16 gelişmekte olan ülke için 1995-2013 dönemini kapsayan dinamik panel regresyon analizi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Kişi başına düşen gelir bütün modellerde bağımlı değişkeni açıklamakta anlamlı bulunmuştur. Bunun yanında mevzuatın kalitesi ve şehir nüfusu gelişmiş ülkelerde, kişi başına düşen elektrik tüketimi ve yaş bağımlılık oranı ise gelişmekte olan ülkelerde bağımlı değişkeni açıklamakta anlamlı bulunmuştur.
