THE DETERMINATION OF VACUUM MELTING CONDITIONS FOR SOME INTERMETALLIC COMPOUNDS
Abstract
The fast developments on the technology increase to need materials having high performance. Because of this,
the development of technology depends on development of the materials that have superior properties. The
intermetallic compounds with different physical and mechanical properties to give hope for using these
materials in hard conditions. Intermetallic compounds considered as a mid group between metals and ceramics,
and in the future believed to fill the gap between these two group materials. In this study, the vacuum induction
melting conditions were determined for some intermetallic compounds. In that manner, Ni3Al, NiAl, Ti3Al,
TiAl, Fe3A, FeAl and Mg2Si intermetallic compounds were produced by vacuum induction melting, and their
microstructures were observed.
