The Frequency Of Smoking In Students Of Medical School Of Düzce University And The Factors Affecting It

Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study was to reveal frequency of smoking in students of Medical Schoolof Duzce University and the factors effecting smoking.Materials and Methods: Population of the study included 213 of 347 /61.4%) studentsattending the Medical School of Duzce University on 2009-2010 education period. Thequestionnaires about smoking and affecting factors were implemented under supervision.Results: The number of students participated in the study were 213 (61.4%). The mean age ofstudents was 20.5 ±2.24, of students 40.1% was male, 59.9% was female, and the mean age ofbeginning to smoke was 17.8 ± 0.4. The frequency of smoking in male students (28.6%) wasgreater than female students (16.5%) (x2= 4.29, p=0.038). Smoking was found more frequentat students who were at last term, who were not pleased with the faculty they had been studying,at students who did not have hobbies and the students who explained that they had been exposedto violence.Conclusion: To start accommodation programs for students and prevent the behaviors whichdetermined as violence by the students may be useful in reducing the frequency of smoking ofstudents

Düzce Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Öğrencilerinde Sigara İçme Sıklığı Ve Etkileyen Faktörler

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmada Düzce Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi öğrencilerinde sigara içme sıklığı veetkileyen faktörleri belirlemek amaçlanmıştır.Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırmanın evreni ve örneklemi Düzce Tıp Fakültesi’nde 2009 - 2010öğrenim yılında okuyan 347 öğrencidir. Sigara içme ve etkileyen faktörlerle ilgili anket formuöğrencilere gözlem altında uygulanmıştır.Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan öğrenci sayısı 213 (%61,4) yaş ortalamaları 20,5±2.24 yıl olanöğrencilerin %40,1 erkek , %59,9 kız olup; sigaraya başlama yaşı 17,8 ± 0,4 yıl olaraksaptanmıştır. Erkek öğrencilerin (%28,6) kızlara (%16,5) göre (x2= 4.29, p=0.038) daha yüksekoranda sigara içtikleri bulunmuştur. Sigara içme sıklığı son sınıf öğrencilerinde, okuduklarıfakülteden memnun olmayan, boş zaman uğraşı olmayan öğrencilerde ve azarlanma ve şiddetemaruz kaldığını belirten öğrencilerde daha yüksektir.Sonuçlar: Öğrencilere yönelik uyum çalışmalarının başlatılması ve öğrencilerin şiddet olaraknitelendirdikleri davranışların engellenmesi sigara içme sıklığını azaltabilir
