Abstract

Kapok fiber which is found in kapok fruit is a kind of seed fiber. Kapok tree is also known as “ceiba pentandra”. Kapok fiber exhibits different profile with its hollow fiber structure, hydrophobic-oleophilic character, low density and buoyancy properties from other cellulosic fibers. It has become an interesting research material thanks to its divergent properties and also its easily accessible, biodegradable, recyclable and reusable nature. Investigations on kapok fibers have demonstrated that a wide range of potential uses of biofuels, electrochemical storage materials, sound and heat insulation materials, removal of various oil-derived wastes from water sources, and even the use of this stated range can be extended. Renewable alternative green sources recently are drawing more attention under sustainability goals. In this respect, kapok fibers shine out as very important source of raw material for many different applications. In this review, fiber structure, fiber properties, application areas of kapok fibers were examined comprehensively.

Oleofilik Buoyans Özellikli Kapok Lifleri ve Yenilikçi Yaklaşımlar

Year 2019, , 61 - 89, 31.01.2019
https://doi.org/10.29130/dubited.424120
