The assetment of constitutional amandments accepted on April 16, 2017
Abstract
The 1982 Constitution has been at the center of the ongoing debate since it came into force. In almost every period, different social segments demanded the amendment of the constitution. This constitution, which was changed first in 1987, has been amended 21 times, in total, up to now.
Turkey once again went to the polls for a
constitutional amendment. The main subject of the 18-article amendment was the
government system. With the acceptance of the people Turkey passed from the
parliamentary system to the presidential system. In this study, the amendment
to be referred to the public approval on 16 April is examined and alternative
suggestions are discussed.
