A Preliminary Study on the Performance of Basalt Concrete Incorporating Mineral and Chemical Admixtures

Abstract

In this study, the effects of using mineral and chemical additives in different proportions on fresh and hardened concrete in concrete mixture groups prepared with basalt aggregate were examined as an experimental study. Today, the use of mineral and chemical additives to increase concrete performance is becoming widespread. The main purpose of this study is to examine the effects of different types of additives and proportions on concrete behavior in concrete produced with basalt aggregate. It has been seen that the use of additives in mixtures has an important effect on the improvement of the workability, strength and durability properties of concrete. During the study process, nine different concrete mixtures with different mineral and chemical additives were prepared together with basalt aggregate. A total of fifty-four concrete cube samples were produced, six of which were produced in each group. The samples were kept under cure in a controlled manner for 7 and 28 days. Concrete mixtures and experiment stages were carried out in line with the standards. In line with the results of the experiment, the use of mineral additives and chemical additive ratios in concrete production positively affected the workability. In addition, it plays an active role in increasing the pressure resistance of concretes prepared with appropriate mixture design. As a result, the appropriate mineral and chemical additive in the design of basalt aggregate concretes has a positive effect on the concrete and it has become possible to safely evaluate these concretes in engineering studies.
