THE EDUCATION IN THE SHIPYARD ENGINEERING SCHOOL (SHIP BUILGIND, GEOGRAPHY, MAP, NAVIGATION)

Abstract

This study can be seen as an attempt to explain the adaptation of engineering science to the Ottoman Empire through the Shipyard Engineering in the next century with the influence of the new science developed in Europe starting from the 17th century. The reason for this was the defeats in the wars against the European states and Russia. The effort to put an end to military defeats had a serious impact on the Ottoman rulers in taking a model of a European state - France - which was more advanced in this regard. The Muhendishane opened in 1775 as the Hendesehane was originally both in view of the land and marine engineer from 1795 onwards divided into two separate branches. What is important for us is the sea part, the map, geography, shipbuilding and navigation lessons that the courses taught here are given at at the center of this article and also the lecturers and teaching materials are within the limits of our subject.

TERSANE MÜHENDİSHANESİ’NDE EĞİTİM (GEMİ İNŞA, COĞRAFYA, HARİTA VE SEYRÜSEFER) (1773-1838)

Öz

Bu çalışma Avrupa’da 17. yüzyıldan itibaren gelişen yeni bilimin etkisi ile birlikte bir sonraki yüzyılda – 18. yüzyıl- yine Avrupa’da tohumları atılan mühendislik biliminin Osmanlı’ya uyarlanmasını Tersane Mühendishanesi üzerinden anlatma çabası olarak görülebilir. Osmanlı’yı buna iten sebep ise Avrupa devletleri ve Rusya ile yapılan savaşlarda alınan mağlubiyetler olmuştur. Askeri yenilgilere son verme çabası, kendinden bu konuda ileri olan bir Avrupalı devletini -Fransa- örnek alma konusunda Osmanlı yöneticilerini ciddi şekilde düşündürmüş/etkilemiştir. 1775’de Hendesehane adıyla açılan Mühendishane başlangıçta hem kara hem deniz mühendishanesi görünümünde iken 1795’ten itibaren iki ayrı dala ayrılmıştır. Bizim için önemli olan deniz kısmı -Tersane Mühendishanesi- olup, burada okutulan harita, coğrafya, gemi inşa ve seyrüsefer dersleri, bu dersleri veren hocalar ve eğitim materyali konumuzun sınırlarını çizmektedir.
