Investigation of the Effect of DMSO and Indomethacin on Corneal Mast Cells after Burn with Hydrofluoric Acid in Rabbits
Abstract
In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of indomethacin and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), which are antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agents, on mast cells, which contribute to the healing of eye burns induced by hydrofluoric acid in rabbits. The right eye of 72 male New Zealand rabbits was burned with %2 hydrofluoric acid for 60 seconds after general anesthesia. However, the eyes were washed with 500 cc saline. The rabbits were divided into 4 groups with 18 animals in each group. In the study, 40% DMSO and %0.1 indomethacin were used alone and in combination. In burn-formed group, mast cells were seen in the corneal connective tissue around blood vessels, while mast cells were not observed in the corneal connective tissue of the animals in control group. After burn formation, the presence of mast cells in the indomethacin, DMSO and DMSO+indomethacin groups were determined in the corneal connective tissue. There was no significant difference between the days in the groups.
