The Investigation of the Trachea in Porcupines with Computerized Tomography
Abstract
In literature reviews on
porcupines, no research has been found on the examination of the trachea’s
computerized tomography. In this study, it was aimed to examine the
computerized tomography for the first time in porcupines and to provide
significant contributions in this field. A total of 10 adult porcupines were
used in the study. The multidetector computerized tomography views and the
measurements were taken from the 4 specified points of the pars cervicalis and
pars thoracalis of the trachea. A meaningful statistical distinction between
the males and females was not found. In all the materials, the vertical
diameter was measured higher than the transversal diameter. Also in all of the
subjects; the increase in the diameters of the trachea from the cranial towards
the caudal was found to be remarkable. In the statistical investigation; in the
measurements of the vertical (V) and transversal (T) diameters and in the
measurements of the lumen crosssectional area (CSA), the differences between
the cervical and thoracal measurement values were found to be significant. It
was thought that this study will provide reference datas for similar studies.
