Puerperium and Cerebral Venous Infarct: A Case Report
Abstract
Cerebral venous thrombosis during pregnancy is rare in developed countries. Cerebral venous infarction is seen especially in puerperium. It seems most often on postpartum 2nd or 3rd week .It is the common cause of strokes in pregnancy. Classic triad of cerebral venous infarction is; headache, papilledema and seizure. In addition, focal neurological deficits, aphasia, visual disorders may also occur. It is most frequently seen in the lateral sinus or superior sagittal sinus. Among the reasons there are hemoglobinopathies, hyperviscosity syndromes, malignancies, paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, and collagen tissue diseases. In addition it is associated with hypercoagulability dominated situations such as protein C and S deficiencies. In this article we present a case with cortical venous infarct that predisposed by puerperium.
