How Cynicism Mediates Spiritual Leadership and Organizational Commitment? (The case of Turkish and Indonesian Universities)

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the role of cynicism in the relationship between university employees' perceived spiritual leadership and their organizational commitment. As a scope, university employees who continue their education activities in Turkey and Indonesia were handled, so the comparison method based on cultural differences was preferred. In the method of the study, SPSS statistical program was used for correlation analysis and determination of normal distributions, and AMOS structural equation modeling was used to reveal regression relations. According to the results obtained in the study, as the perception of spiritual leadership of academics working in Turkey and Indonesia gets stronger, their commitment to the organization also increases. At the same time, when university employees perceive cynicism in the organization, their commitment to spiritual leadership and organization weakens. In other words, it is seen that cynicism has a partial mediating role in the relationship between the perception of spiritual leadership and commitment to the organization for both countries.
