Eff iciency Analysis of the Teams in BEKO Turkish Basketball League

Abstract

This paper investigates how well do teams in the Beko Basketball League play up to their potential. For this purpose using non-parametric data envolopment analysis approach (DEA), the efficieny of basketball teams in the 2008-2009, 2009-2010, 2010-2011 seasons is measured. Seven variables which show the performace of the teams in the field used as inputs and number of wins of the teams used as output for the analysis. We find that Efes Pilsen and Fenerbahçe Ülker teams are the dominant teams in the league for the seasons analysed. We also conclude that although super efficiency score ranking and season ranking of the teams are not the same, they are quite parellel to each other

Türkiye BEKO Basketbol Ligindeki Takımların Etkinlik Analizi

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Beko Basketbol Ligindeki takımların saha içi performanslarının, sahip oldukları potansiyellerine ne kadar yakın olduğu ölçülmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu amaçla basketbol takımlarının, 2008-2009, 2009-2010 ve 2010-2011 normal sezon etkinlikleri parametrik olmayan Veri Zarflama Analizi (VZA) kullanılarak hesaplanmıştır. Takımların saha içi performansını gösteren yedi ayrı değişken girdi seti olarak kullanılmış, çıktı olarak da takımların normal sezon galibiyet sayıları alınmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar, Efes Pilsen ve Fenerbahçe Ülker basketbol takımlarının incelenen üç sezon boyunca dominant kulüpler olduğunu göstermektedir. Bunun yanında normal sezon lig sıralaması ile hesaplanan süper etkinlik sıralamasının birebir örtüşmediği ancak her iki sıralamanın da birbirine paralel sonuçlar verdiği görülmüştür
