Effects ofClass III Twin-Block Appliance in the Early Management of functional Class III Malocclusion: A Case Report

Abstract

Early treatment of Class III malocclusion is crucial to provide a more favourable environment for normal craniofacial growth and to improve facial esthetics for normal psychosocial development. The aim of this case report is to present the effects of early management of functional Class III malocclusion including functionalorthopedic treatment with a modified Clark Class III twin block appliance and fixed orthodontic treatment periods in a growing patient. Functional anterior crossbite was corrected by Class III twin-block appliance in eight months in the first phase of treatment; subsequently, final functional occlusion was established in eleven months by fixed orthodontic treatment. The present case report demonstrates that successful results can be achieved with the Class III twin-block appliance in the early management of functional Class III malocclusion.

FONKSİYONEL SINIF III MALOKLÜZYONUN ERKEN DÖNEM TEDAVİSİNDE SINIF III TWİN-BLOK APAREYİNİN ETKİLERİ: OLGU SUNUMU

Abstract

Sınıf III maloklüzyonun erken dönem tedavisi,baş ve yüz bölgesinin normal büyüme ve gelişimi için daha uygun bir ortamın oluşturulması ve normal bir psikososyal gelişim için yüz estetiğinin arttırılması açısından önemlidir. Bu olgu sunumunun amacı, büyüyen bir bireyde modifiye Clark Sınıf III twin-blok apareyi ile fonksiyonel ortopedik tedavi ve sabit ortodontik tedavi aşamalarını içeren fonksiyonel Sınıf III maloklüzyonun erken dönem tedavisinin etkilerini sunmaktır. Tedavinin ilk aşamasında fonksiyonel ön çapraz kapanış Sınıf III twin-blok apareyi ile sekiz ayda tedavi edilmiş, daha sonra sabit ortodontik tedavi ile on bir ayda sonuç fonksiyonel oklüzyon elde edilmiştir. Bu olgu sunumu, fonksiyonel Sınıf III maloklüzyonun erken dönem tedavisindeSınıf III twinblok apareyi ile başarılı sonuçlar elde edilebileceğini göstermektedir
