The Influence of Different Ceramic Bases on the Veneering Colour

Year 2016, Volume: 43 Issue: 3 - Volume: 43 Issue: 3, 157 - 164, 01.08.2016

Abstract

Introduction: Today, rapid progress in the development of restorative materials also allow using various material in dentistry. The development of advanced dental material technologies, the increased demand for esthetic restorations has resulted in the use of all-ceramic restorations in several applications. The ability of ceramics to match natural dentition and the good physical and optical properties of ceramics make them the material of choice for patients with high esthetic expectations. The aim of this in vitro study is, according to the formulation that determined by CIE, to compare the influence of different core structures on the final ceramic restoration colors and analyze the noticeability of these colors. Material and method: Zirconium oxide ceramic Cercon and lithium disilicate glass ceramic IPS Empress 2 which were square forms 5 × 5 × 1.5 were used in order to imitate the core framework. Cercon Ceram S and d.Sign ceramics whose color scale were A1; were applied over core specimens respectively. The colors of all the samples were measured with chromameter. All specimens were evaluated according to CIELAB formula, which is based on three colours that called “tristimulus coordinates”: red x , green y , and blue z , accepted by CIE system. The reason of the preference of CIELAB system for the measurement of discolouration is the sensitivity for measurement of the minimum colour differences. Result: Mean and standard deviation for L*, a*, b* data were calculated for each group. These results showed that colour difference of these two ceramics ΔE , were beyond the same perception of colour match. The colour difference of lithium disilicate IPS Empress 2, ∆E: 4,97 is significant changes in clinical applications. Zirconium oxide Cercon, ∆E: 1,99 , has noticeable color differences. Conclusion: One of the most important handicap of dental clinicians is known as the mismatch of selected colour in the clinic and the produced restoration colour in the laboratory. The high translücency ceramic materials that are considered better esthetical results, can be affected by the environmental effects more and show more colour differences.

FARKLI SERAMİK KOR YAPILARININ VENEER PORSELEN RENGİ ÜZERİNE ETKİLERİNİN DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ

Year 2016, Volume: 43 Issue: 3 - Volume: 43 Issue: 3, 157 - 164, 01.08.2016
