Year 2005, Volume: 32 Issue: 2 - Volume: 32 Issue: 2, 123 - 133, 01.05.2005

Abstract

This in vitro study investigated the surface differences and tag formations of resin based cementson prepared dentin surfaces, which were precoatedwith eugenol and non-eugenol containing temporary cement by SEM. Fifteen human 3.molar teeth were used in thisstudy. Very wide and 3 mm deep occlusal cavitieswere prepared on 10 molar teeth. The other 5 teethwere used as control group. These cavities werefilled with eitherTempbond NE or Tempbond eugenol containing temporary cements.Specimens were thermocycled 200 times and storedfor 7 days in distilled water at 37°. After 7 days, remaining tooth structure outside the occlusal cavities was removed with water-cooled highspeed bursuntil temporary cement border. Temporary cementwas removed with sharp burs, surfaces werewashed and cleaned with water and airpressure.Resin-based cement was applied on thesesurfaces according to the manufacturer’s directions. In control group, tooth tissue was removed upto 3 mm deep from occlusal surface and resin-basedcement was applied on these surfaces similar to thetest group samples. After 24 hours, teeth were put in % 50orthophosphoric acid for 7 days and then bondedsurfaces were analyzed by SEM. Control groupshowed the best tag formation and collateral connections between tags. Groups treated with temporary cements produced shorter tags. Especiallyeugenol containing temporary cement showed veryshort tag formations. As a conclusion, use of eugenol containing temporary cement before resinbased cement applications had negative effects on tag formation.

GEÇİCİ YAPIŞTIRICI SİMANLARIN REZİN İÇERİKLİ DAİMİ YAPIŞTIRICILARIN DENTİNE BAĞLANMA YÜZEYLERİNE ETKİLERİ

Year 2005, Volume: 32 Issue: 2 - Volume: 32 Issue: 2, 123 - 133, 01.05.2005
