Is round cell density in semen a factor affecting pregnancy in infertility treatment?

Abstract

Purpose: Round cells seen during spermiogram evaluation are cells that have the potential to affect pregnancy outcomes. In this study, we evaluated the effect of round cell density on pregnancy outcome in semen samples of patients admitted to our assisted reproductive treatment center for male-induced infertility and unexplained infertility. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted in terms of round cell in men who applied to Gaziantep Cengiz Gökçek Gynecology and Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, Assisted Reproductive Treatment Center for in vitro fertilization and intrauterine insemination between 02/01/2022 and 01/01/2023. A total of 98 cases were analyzed: 75 cases with a diagnosis of male-induced infertility and 23 cases with a diagnosis of unexplained infertility. Statistical analysis was performed with the help of IBM SPSS Statistics 25.0 program and p<0.05 values were accepted as significant. Results: In unexplained infertility and male-related infertility patients, no statistically significant difference was observed in terms of round cell cell density according to pregnancy outcome (p=0.140, p=0.919). Conclusion: As a result of our study, it was observed that round cell cell density did not affect pregnancy outcomes in unexplained infertility and male-related infertility cases.
