The Views and Suggestions of ELT Prospective Teachers on Interview for Teacher Selection and Recruitment System in Turkey

Abstract

Teacher selection and
recruitment system in recent years has become a highly concerned issue for the
exam takers of The Selection Examination for Professional Posts in Public
Organizations (henceforward KPSS) in Turkey. Ministry of National Education
(henceforward MoNE) put into action some important steps for teacher selection
and recruitment system. Among these
steps, the most significant one is Interview which aims to assess prospective
teachers’ oral and representational ability. This study aims to reflect ELT prospective
teachers’ views on Interview which is conducted after KPSS. The study reveals
that almost all the participants argue that Interview is not objective evaluation
method. Moreover, the participants are also of the opinion that Interview
should be revised with respect to its content, committee members, duration
allocated to each person and the announcement procedure of the results.

Abstract

Son yıllarda Türkiye’de öğretmen seçimi ve istihdam sistemi  KPSS adayları için oldukça endişeli bir hal
almıştır. Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı öğretmen seçimi ve atama sistemi için bazı
önemli adımlar attı. Bu adımların en önemlisi, öğretmen adaylarının sözsel ve temsil
yeteneklerini değerlendirmeyi amaçlayan Mülakat Sınavı’ dır. Bu çalışma İngilizce
öğretmenliği öğretmen adayları'nın KPSS sonrası yapılan Mülakat Sınavı üzerine
görüşlerini yansıtmayı amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma' da, hemen hemen tüm
katılımcıların, Mülakat Sınavı’nın objektif bir değerlendirme yöntemi
olmadığını iddia ettiklerini ortaya çıkmaktadır. Ayrıca, katılımcılar Mülakat
Sınavı’nın içeriğinin, komisyon üyelerinin, Mülakatta her bir kişiye tahsis edilen sürenin
ve sonuçların ilan usulünün yeniden düzenlenmesi gerektiğinin de görüşündedirler.
