Abstract

Abstract

Determining the dynamic properties of soils is important for geotechnical engineers. Stress-deformation and strength properties of soils change due to earthquakes. As a result, deformations occur in the soil and structural damage develop. Determining the dynamic properties of soils is of great importance for the structures to be built in earthquake zones. In order to minimize the possible damages, the behavior of the soils under cyclic loads should be determined and taken into consideration in design. For this purpose, different sand samples were tested to understand the dynamic properties of soil. In the study, experiments were carried out using the resonant column test system in order to determine dynamic behavior at the small deformation levels of the clayey sand samples obtained from site with Toyoura sand widely used in the literature. As a result of the experiments, the shear modulus and damping ratio curves of the samples with different properties were obtained and differences and similarities were discussed.
