Variants of Cinderella in Different Cultures as an Example of Rewriting

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of the variants of Cinderella fairy tale in Western and Eastern cultures. The first research question of the study analyses the main reasons for the transformation of Cinderella in Western and Eastern variants and reveals how each variant adapted to the social norms and cultural contexts of the time. While the Western versions are particularly identified with the works of Perrault and the Brothers Grimm, the Eastern variants are shaped by the traditions and religious beliefs of regions such as China, India and the Middle East. The second research question of the study analyses how the perception of gender, gender roles and the image of women change in modern adaptations of Cinderella fairy tale. The research examines how fairy tales are shaped in a cultural context and how universal themes evolve by blending with cultural specificities. In this context, the main purpose of the study is to show how fairy tales can be reinterpreted in different narrative forms to create intertextual interaction and thus how intercultural interaction can be analyzed in a literary context. The study was conducted with qualitative research method and the theoretical framework was created with content analysis method. This study presents an intertextuality-based analysis on the rewriting and transformations of fairy tales in the cultural context and emphasizes the importance of this analysis in understanding cultural interaction processes. Gender perceptions and representations encountered in the documents are analyzed in a way that serves to explain the transformation processes of fairy tales in the cultural context. The study aims to contribute to the historical evolution and social transformations of the variants of Cinderella in Western and Eastern cultures.

Yeniden Yazma Örneği Olarak Sindirella Masalının Farklı Kültürlerdeki Varyantları

Abstract

Bu çalışma, Sindirella masalının Batı ve Doğu kültürlerindeki varyantlarının dönüşümünü incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışmanın ilk araştırma sorusu, Sindirella'nın Batı ve Doğu varyantlarındaki dönüşümünün temel nedenlerini irdeleyerek, her bir varyantın o dönemin toplumsal normlarına ve kültürel bağlamlarına nasıl uyum sağladığını ortaya koymaktadır. Batı'daki versiyonlar, özellikle Perrault ve Grimm Kardeşler'in eserleriyle özdeşleşirken Doğu'daki varyantlar Çin, Hindistan ve Orta Doğu gibi bölgelerin gelenekleri ve dini inançlarıyla şekillenmiştir. Çalışmanın ikinci araştırma sorusu, Sindirella masalının modern uyarlamalarında toplumsal cinsiyet algısının, toplumsal cinsiyet rollerinin, kadın imgesinin nasıl değiştiğini incelemektedir. Araştırma, masalların kültürel bağlamda nasıl şekillendiğini ve evrensel temaların kültürel özgünlüklerle harmanlanarak nasıl evrildiğini ele almaktadır. Bu bağlamda çalışmanın temel amacı, masalların farklı anlatı biçimlerinde yeniden yorumlanarak metinlerarası etkileşim oluşturduğunu ve böylece kültürlerarası etkileşimin edebi bağlamda nasıl analiz edilebileceğini göstermektir. Çalışma, nitel araştırma yöntemiyle gerçekleştirilmiş ve içerik analizi yöntemi ile teorik çerçeve oluşturulmuştur. Bu çalışma, masalların kültürel bağlamdaki yeniden yazımları ve dönüşümleri üzerine metinlerarasılık temelli bir analiz sunmakta ve bu analizin kültürel etkileşim süreçlerini anlamadaki önemine vurgu yapmaktadır. Dokümanlarda karşılaşılan toplumsal cinsiyet algıları ve temsilleri, masalların kültürel bağlamdaki dönüşüm süreçlerini açıklamaya hizmet edecek şekilde ele alınmıştır. Çalışma, Sindirella'nın Batı ve Doğu kültürlerindeki varyantlarının tarihsel evrimini ve toplumsal dönüşümleri gösterme yolunda katkı sunmayı amaçlamaktadır.
