Imported Pottery from Sinabiç (Dalisandos?): Eastern Sigillata A, Cypriot Sigillata, Lead-Glazed Pottery

Abstract

It is suggested that the settlement area of the ancient city of Sinabıç is the ancient city of Dalisandos in ancient and modern sources. The surveys conducted here revealed a large amount of Hellenistic and Roman pottery. In this study, imported groups consisting of Eastern Sigillata A, Cypriot Sigillata and Lead-Glazed Pottery were evaluated. Sinabıç (Dalisandos) is located on the Sertavul Pass, which connects the eastern Mediterranean coast to the interior of Anatolia. Eastern Sigillata A Ware, Cypriot Sigillata,and Lead-Glazed Pots are the popular pots of the southern and southwestern shores of Anatolia, the Syrian-Palestinian region and Cyprus in the Late Hellenistic and Early Roman periods. According to this, it is understood that Sinabıç (Dalisandos) and its surroundings had close ties with these regions in the Late Hellenistic and Early Roman periods. These imported pottery groups probably arrived to the city together. Hayes Form 2A (the late 2nd century BC to the 1st century AD), 49-50 (the late 1st century BC to the 1st century AD), 40C (Traianus period) and 60 (the 2nd century AD) types were identified among Eastern Sigillata A pots. Two parts belonging to Hayes Form P5 (the first half of the 1st century AD) and P12 (the 1st century to the first half of the 2nd century AD) were identified among Cypriot Sigillata. Two pieces of cups/kantharos bases were identified among Lead-Glazed Pottery. The two pots are generally dated to the second half of the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD.

Sinabıç’tan (Dalisandos?) İthal Seramikler: Doğu Sigillata A, Kıbrıs Sigillatası, Kurşun Sırlı Seramik

Öz

Sinabıç antik yerleşim alanının antik ve modern kaynaklarda Dalisandos antik kenti olduğu önerilmektedir. Burada yürütülen yüzey araştırmalarında yoğun miktarda Hellenistik ve Roma dönemlerine ait seramikler ele geçmiştir. Bu çalışmada Doğu Sigillata A, Kıbrıs Sigillataları ve Kurşun Sırlı Seramiklerden oluşan ithal gruplar değerlendirilmiştir. Doğu Sigillata A kapları arasında Hayes Form 2A (M.Ö. geç 2. yüzyıl ile M.S. 1. yüzyıl), 49-50 (M.Ö. geç 1. yüzyıl ile M.S. 1. yüzyıl), 40C (Traian dönemi) ve 60 (MS 2. yüzyıl) tipleri tespit edilmiştir. Kıbrıs Sigillatası’nda Hayes Form P5 (M.S. 1.yüzyılın ilk yarısı) ve P12’ye (MS 1. Yüzyıl-2. yüzyılın ilk yarısı) ait birer parça bulunmuştur. Kurşun Sırlı Seramiklere ait ise iki adet kadeh/kantharos kaidesi ele geçmiştir. İki kap genel olarak MÖ 1. yüzyılın 2. yarısı ile M.S. 1. yüzyıla tarihlenmektedir.

Sinabıç (Dalisandos?) Doğu Akdeniz kıyılarını Anadolu’nun iç kesimlerine bağlayan Sertavul geçidi üzerinde yer almaktadır. Doğu Sigillata A Kapları, Kıbrıs Sigillataları ve Kurşun Sırlı Kaplar Geç Hellenistik ve Erken Roma dönemlerinde Anadolu’nun güney ve güneybatı kıyıları, Suriye-Filistin bölgesi ve Kıbrıs’ın popüler kaplarıdır. Buna göre Sinabıç (Dalisandos?) ve çevresinin Geç Hellenistik ve Erken Roma dönemlerinde bu bölgelerle sıkı bağlarının olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Olasılıkla da ithal bu seramik grupları kentte birlikte ulaşmıştır.
