Historical Journey of Brucellosis and Tularemia

Abstract

The Greek word 'Zoon'
means 'Animal'. In 1959, the World Health Organization stated its general
disposition with the statement that 
"Zoonotic diseases are called infectious diseases that are
transmitted naturally from animals to humans." This group, which is
considered to have over 200 varieties for today, constitutes 60% of human
infectious diseases. Brucellosis is the most common of these and exhibits
nonspecific signs of acute or chronic illnesses that may vary from mild to
severe. Tularemia is a disease that resembles plague in many ways and can be
missed in differential diagnosis. When evaluated globally; roughly 500,000 new
cases per year are reported for both diseases, varying according to the
countries. In this article, the interesting historical journey of both is tried
to be explained.

Bruselloz ve Tulareminin Tarihsel yolculukları

Abstract

Yunanca ‘Zoon’
kelimesi ‘Hayvan’ demektir. 1959 yılında Dünya Sağlık Örgütü, ‘‘Hayvanlardan
insanlara doğal bir şekilde bulaşan enfeksiyon hastalıklarına,  zoonotik hastalıklar denir ’’ açıklaması ile
genel kabülünü belirtmiştir. Bugün için 200’ün üzerinde çeşidi olduğu kabul
edilen bu grup insanlara ait enfeksiyon hastalıklarının %60’ını oluşturmaktadır. Bruselloz bunlar arasında en sık gözleneni olup hafiften ağıra kadar
değişebilen akut yada kronik seyirli nonspesifik belirtiler sergiler. Tularemi ise
birçok yönüyle vebaya benzeyen ve
ayırıcı tanıda atlanabilen bir hastalıktır. Global olarak değerlendirildiğinde,
ülkelere göre değişmekle beraber her iki hastalık için kabaca yılda 500.000
yeni olgu bildirilmektedir. Bu makalede her ikisininde ilginç olan tarihsel
yolculukları anlatılmaya çalışılmıştır.
