Effects on Compaction Pressure, Temperature and Compaction Time of Compaction Technique in Pile Type Silo

Abstract

The most important factor in silage making is compaction. Many factors such as equipment used at this stage, material properties and applied methods are effective on the compression efficiency. For quality silage; It is important to ensure a sufficiently homogeneous compaction in the silo. The compaction level of the material has generally been correlated with the material density. However, it is difficult to control this during silage making. This, is due to the effectiveness of many parameters. In this research, the effects of the compaction equipment route on compaction pressure and compaction time were investigated. A pressure measurement system is used to determine the compaction pressure. In this way, it was possible to examine the effect of the equipment route on compaction during the silage stage. The research was conducted in pile type silo. A 92 HP tractor was used as the compaction equipment. A single route was used during compaction. The pressure sensors are located at the pre-determined measuring points in the silo to determine the compaction pressure applied to the material. The compression pressure was measured and recorded at these points during the entire compaction period. Temperature was also measured by placing temperature sensors at the measuring points. At the same time, the compaction times were recorded by the pressure measurement system. As a result; The compaction equipment route has a significant effect on the compaction efficiency of the material. The highest compaction pressure (0.35 bar) and the highest compression time (228 minutes) were determined and in the bottom layer of the silo. Due to the tractor route, the compression pressure was measured high on the right side of the silo. Temperature values were found to be highest at the measurement points where compression pressure was highest.
