Self-Efficacy Levels of Primary School Students and Factors Affecting Them
Abstract
The purpose of the study was to ascertain the self-efficacy levels of fourth-year elementary students as well as the factors influencing them. The explanatory sequential design was implemented in the study. The study group comprised 584 students for the quantitative stage, 10 students for the qualitative stage, and 9 teachers. The research utilized semi-structured interview forms and the Self-Efficacy Scale for Children. The quantitative data was examined using descriptive statistics and a one-way ANOVA test. Content analysis was applied to analyze the qualitative data. It was found that the students' self-efficacy levels were high. In the total scores that the students received from the scale, a significant difference was identified in favor of those with high self-efficacy levels. However, it was observed that the father's educational level did not vary according to the students' learning levels. The academic success variable indicated that students' self-efficacy levels rose with their academic accomplishment levels. Factors influencing students' self-efficacy include parental educational level, academic achievement, friendships, and emotional control. It is expected that the research will provide suggestions directly related to its findings.
