Abstract

This study has two main purposes. The first purpose of this study was to develop a scale for teacher candidates on the Internet information pollution. Second purpose of the study was to examine Internet information pollution scale scores of teacher candidates according to their genders, programs, daily internet usage and technology competency. In line with these purposes, validity and reliability studies of Internet Information Pollution Scale were performed with the participation of 521 students from Anadolu University, Education Faculty. Principal Component Analysis and Warimax rotation technique was utilized for the construct validity of the scale. As a result of factor analysis, 20-item two-factor structure was obtained. Explanatory total of these two factors is 42.78%. Cronbach's α coefficient was calculated as .88 for internal consistency of the scale. For test-retest reliability, scale form applied to 39 teacher candidates in two weeks and .85 coefficient was determined. According to the results, it was determined that developed scale can be used as a valid and reliable tool for determining information pollution levels encountered in the Internet. Then, the scale was applied to 176 teacher candidates from three programs. Then, the scale was applied to 176 teacher candidates from three programs. It was revealed from the application results that more experienced and proficient teacher candidates less effected from information pollution

Abstract

This study have two main purpose. The first purpose of this study was to develop a scale for teacher candidates on the Internet information pollution. Second purpose of the study was to examine Internet information pollution scale scores of teacher candidates according to their genders, programs, daily internet usage and technology competency. For the purpose of study, primarily 32-item developed and 24 of these items selected for scale with 20 specialists in the field of information technology. The developed scale draft applied to 472 students at Anadolu University, Faculty of Education. The study conducted with 521 teacher candidates from 10 different branches. After the validity and reliability studies of the scale applied to 176 teacher candidates from 3 program. Independent t-test and one way ANOVA was used to compere scale scores according to students’ demographics. It was revealed from the application of Internet Information Pollution scale that more experienced and proficient teacher candidates less effected from information pollution.
