Investigation of Social Media Usage and Satisfaction of Social Studies Student Teachers

Abstract

This study aims to determine how Student Teachers, who received education in Pamukkale University Education Faculty Social Studies Education Department, demonstrate a relationship between social media usage and satisfaction in terms of some variables. Relational screening model was used in the research. Sample of the study is composed of 304 Social Studies Student Teachers who are studying in the first, second, third and fourth grades of Pamukkale University Education Faculty during the fall semester of 2016-2017 academic years. Relationship in research was examined with Gender, academic achievement, class level and media literacy course variables. The data obtained in the study were evaluated in the SPSS 21.0 package program and the percentages and frequency breakdowns were taken. Social media usage scores of Social Studies Student Teachers and social media satisfaction scores were found to be significant. This relationship is a moderate relationship in the positive direction. It has been observed that Social Studies Student Teachers’ social media use and satisfaction are moderate. There was a meaningful difference between the satisfaction level of the Student Teachers and the level of taking the media literacy course in the satisfaction and use test results. This difference was in favor of the students who attended the class stage and Media Literacy course. However, there was a statistically meaningful difference in the use test according to the gender variable, but statistically no significant difference was found in the satisfaction test scores. Similarly, there was a statistically significant difference between the academic achievement and the satisfaction achieved from social media, while there was statistically no significant difference between social media use and academic grade averages.
