Erken Çocukluk Döneminde Çalışma Belleği Derecelendirme Ölçeği’nin Geçerlilik ve Güvenilirlik Çalışması

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı Alloway, Gathercole ve Kirkwood (2008) tarafından 5-11 yaş arasında çocuklar için geliştiren “Working Memory Rating Scale” (WMRS) Çalışma Belleği Derecelendirme Ölçeği’ni 5-8 yaş grubu çocuklar için Türkçeye uyarlamak ve ölçeğin geçerlilik ve güvenilirliğini test etmektir. Genellikle çalışma belleği sorunu olan çocukları tanılamada kullanılan Çalışma Belleği Derecelendirme Ölçeği okul öncesi ve ilkokul öğretmenleri tarafından “Hiç, ara sıra, çoğunlukla ve her zaman” şeklinde doldurulan 4’lü derecelendirmeye sahip likert tipinde 20 davranışsal maddeyi içeren bir ölçektir. Öğretmenler sınıflarındaki çocuklarda görülen davranışların sıklıklarına göre her çocuk için ilgili seçeneği işaretlemektedirler. Alanyazında 0-8 yaş erken çocukluk dönemini kapsamaktadır. Bu nedenle ölçeğin bu dönemi kapsayan 5-8 yaş grubundaki çocuklar için uyarlaması yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu MEB’e bağlı Ankara ili Çankaya ilçesindeki 10 ilkokul, 1 bağımsız anaokulu ve bir ortaokulun anasınıfı olmak üzere toplam 12 okuldan anasınıfı, birinci sınıf ve ikinci sınıfa devam eden toplam 905 çocuk oluşturmuştur. Ölçeğin uyarlama çalışmasında sırasıyla Türkçeye çevrilme, pilot çalışma ve asıl ölçek uyarlama aşamaları izlenmiştir. Ölçek sınıflarındaki tipik gelişim gösteren çocuklar için öğretmenler tarafından doldurulmuştur. Faktör analizi sonucunda ölçeğin tüm yaş gruplarında maddelerin ait oldukları faktördeki yük değerleri ,673’ten daha yüksek bulunmuş ve tüm maddelerin tek bir faktörde toplanarak toplam varyansın %74’ün üstünde bir değerle bu tek boyutla yüksek düzeyde bir ilişki içinde olduğu görülmüştür. Güvenilirlik çalışmasında ise ölçeğin Cronbach Alpha Değeri tüm gruplar için ,975’in üstünde değerlere sahip olması nedeniyle ölçeğin güvenilir olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Yapılan istatistiksel analizler sonucunda 20 maddeden oluşan orijinal ölçekteki madde sayısında değişiklik yapılmamıştır. Çalışma Belleği Dercelendirme Ölçeğinin tek boyutlu 20 maddelik Türkçe versiyonu 5-8 yaş çocuklarının çalışma belleklerini değerlendirmek için Türkiye’de kullanılmaya uygun geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçek olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

The Validity and Reliability Study of the Working Memory Rating Scale in Early Childhood

Abstract

The aim of this study is to adapt the Working Memory Rating Scale (WMRS) developed by Alloway, Gathercole, and Kirkwood (2008) for children aged 5- 11 into Turkish for children aged 5-8 and to test its validity and reliability. The WMRS, which is generally used to diagnose children with typical working memory problems, is a Likert-type 4-point scale containing 20 behavioral items rated as "not typical at all to", "occasionally to", "fairly typical to", and "very typical" by preschool and primary school teachers. Teachers mark the correct option for each child based on the frequency of the child's behavior observed in their classes. The literature suggests that the 0-8 age range covers the early childhood period. Therefore, the scale was adapted for children aged 5-8 in early childhood. The study group consists of a total of 905 children attending kindergarten, first grade, or second grade in 12 schools (i.e., 10 primary schools, 1 independent preschool, and 1 middle school) located in Çankaya district of Turkey's, Ankara province and affiliated to the Turkish Ministry of National Education. In the adaptation process of the scale, the stages of translation to Turkish, pilot scale application, and main scale application were followed respectively. The scale was filled out by teachers for children with typical development in their classes. As a result of the factor analysis on the scale, the items were found to have a factor loading value of over .673 on the factor they belonged to in all age groups, and it was observed that there was a high level of relationship with this single dimension, with a total variance explained value of above %74 and with all the items collected in a single factor. The reliability study showed the scale to be reliable as Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were above .975 for all groups. At the end of the statistical analyses, the number of the items in the original scale consisting of 20 items was not changed. It was concluded that the WMRS's unidimensional 20-item Turkish version is a valid and reliable scale suitable for assessing the working memory of children aged 5-8 in Turkey.
