The performance of banks in an economy is of great
importance for the development of the economy. Multi-Criteria Decision Making
(MCDM) techniques have recently been used frequently in bank performance
evaluation. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the financial performance of
İş Bank operating in the Turkish banking system for the years 2009-2018 within
the framework of CRITIC (Criteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation)
and EDAS (Evaluation based on Distance from Average Solution) methods. In order
to measure the financial performance of İşbank, 10 selected financial
evaluation criteria such as capital adequacy ratio, deposit level, loans
received, deposit-to-loan ratio, non-performing loans, liquidity level, return
on average assets, return on average equity, income diversification and
operating expenses are employed. Findings from the CRITIC objective weighting
approach indicate that the most important performance criterion for İşbank is
the deposit-to-loan ratio. In addition, according to the findings obtained by
EDAS performance ranking, the highest financial performance of İşbank during
the research period is 2009 while the year 2009 is the lowest.
