Deniz Akvaryumunda Tutulan Palamut Balıklarında (Sarda sarda) Karma Enfeksiyon Olgusu

Year 2016, Volume: 13 Issue: 1, 75 - 82, 04.08.2016

Abstract

A Case Report of a Mixed Bacterial Infection in Mackarel (Sarda sarda) Reared in a Marine Aquarium

Year 2016, Volume: 13 Issue: 1, 75 - 82, 04.08.2016

Abstract

This study was carried out for the investigation of the mortalities observed in Atlantic bonito (Sarda sarda) reared in
a marine aquarium. Bacteriological and histopathological methods were used for the diagnosis and antibiogram susceptibility
tests were made for the control of the disease. Ulcerative skin lesions over the body and head and hemorrhages at the fin
bases were observed in the external examination of the fish. The hemorrhages over the visceral organs such as the liver and
the gastrointestinal tract and besides liquefactive necrosis of the kidney were observed in the internal examination of the fish
samples. Bacterial inoculations were made from the liver, spleen and kidney and also from the ulcerative regions over the body
surface. Depending on the morphologic, physiologic and biochemical properties, bacterial isolates recovered from the fish
samples were identified as Pseudomonas stutzeri and Acinetobacter sp. It was also determined that these isolates are sensitive
to oxytetracycline and enrofloxacine. In the histopathological examination of the fish tissues, necrosis in the ulcerative
skin lesions proceeding through the muscles, degeneration in the liver cells and kidney tubules, necrotic focci in the kidney
and spleen, hemosiderin accumulation in the spleen and hemorrhages and necrosis in the gill filaments were observed. In
conclusion, the results of this study showed that the fish reared in the marine aquaria are very sensitive to the mixed infections
due to the stress developed after transportation.
