Batı Nil Virusu, atlarda arthropodalar ile nakledilen bir viral enfeksiyona neden olur. Hastalık başlıca ensefalit,ataksi, parazi , paraliz, titremeler, güçsüzlük ve körlüğü içeren nöyrolojik bozukluklarla karakterizedir. Son zamanlardabir çok ülkede batı nil virusu salgınları bildirilmiştir
