Abstract

Cytopathological Findings in a Dog With Metastatic Oral Melanoma

Abstract

Oral malignant melanomas are the most common canine oral tumors. They have rapid growth rate, and potential to metastasis to lymph node and distant tissues in a short time. Therefore malign melanomas have a poor prognosis. In the case, clinical, cytological, macroscopic and microscopic findings were evaluated in a 13-year-old, male, Golden Retriever dog malignant melanoma in stage 4 in the oral cavity, and the findings were discussed in light of current literature knowledge. It was thought that cytological diagnosis in the diagnosis of oral tumors may be impor-tant in the early diagnosis of these tumors and may have a positive effect on the life span and life quality of the patient.
