Abstract

İdadiler, eğitim kurumlarının modernizasyonunda yakın dönem
tarihimizin önemli kilometre taşlarından biri olmuştur. Rüşdiye
mekteplerinin üzerinde, sultanilere öğrenci hazırlamak amacıyla tesis
edilen idadilerin ilki İstanbul’da 1873’te açılmıştır. İdadilerin taşrada
yaygınlaşmaya başlaması ise 1880’lerden sonradır. Bu bağlamda Denizli
İdadisi 1891’de Osmanlı taşrasındaki idadiler arasına katılmıştır. Beş
yıllık gündüz öğretim veren Denizli İdadisi’nde incelediğimiz dönemde
yedi öğretmen görev yapmıştır. Okul yönetimi, okutulan dersler,
öğretim kadrosu, okulun öğrenci durumu bu çalışmanın üzerinde
durulan konuları olmuştur. Ayrıca, Denizli’de büyük tahribata yol açan
1899 depreminin Denizli İdadisi ve şehrin eğitim yaşamı üzerindeki
etkileri ele alınan başlıca konulardan bir başkası olmuştur.

An Educational Institution in the Era of Modernization: Denizli İdadi School

Abstract

The İdadi (Preparatory) schools were important milestones in the
modernization of educational institutions in recent Turkish history.
The Rusdiye schools were followed by the İdadis, which was opened in
1873 in order to prepare students to high schools. The expansion of
the preparatory schools outside of Istanbul took place after the 1880s.
In this context, the Denizli İdadisi was opened in 1891. Seven teachers
worked in this school of five-year education. This study will examine
the school administration, courses taught, teaching staff and the
school’s student status. In addition, the negative effects of the 1899 earthquake on Denizli Preparatory School and Denizli’s educational
life are the other issues that we examined in this article.
