A COMPARISON OF THE SOCIAL EXCLUSION EXPERIENCES OF THE HEARING IMPAIRED GENERATION Z WITH THEIR SOCIAL MEDIA ADDICTION AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY LEVELS

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to compare the social exclusion experiences of hearing-impaired Generation Z individuals in terms of social media addiction and physical activity levels. A total of 110 hearing-impaired volunteers living and studying in Kayseri participated in the study. A survey was used as the data collection tool, consisting of four sections: the Social Exclusion Scale, the Social Media Addiction Scale, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire, and a Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher. The obtained data were analyzed using the SPSS software package. In addition to descriptive statistics, the normality distribution of the data was examined using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, which determined that the distributions were not normal. Therefore, the Mann-Whitney U test was applied for comparisons of two independent groups, and the Kruskal-Wallis H test was applied for comparisons of more than two groups. The study results indicated that hearing-impaired students who do not use social media experience social exclusion. Furthermore, physical activity has been shown to have a positive effect on reducing social exclusion. It can be said that students with disabilities who participate more in physical activity experience increases in their self-confidence, communication skills, and integration with their peers
