INVESTIGATION OF DIGITAL LITERACY LEVELS OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Abstract

Nowadays, digital tools and their use have become quite common in both business and daily life. Especially in the business world, the effective use of digital tools is among the main criteria sought in candidates. When evaluated in this context, the ability of individuals to use, understand and improve themselves using digital tools reveals the importance of the concept of digital literacy as a necessity of the digital age. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the digital literacy levels of vocational school students together with various factors. The sample of the study consists of students studying at Altıntaş Vocational School. The "Digital Literacy" scale developed by Ng (2012) and adapted into Turkish by Hamutoğlu et al. (2017) was used in the study. SPSS 26.0 and LISREL package programs were used to analyze the data. As a result of the research, it was determined that the digital literacy levels of the students included in the scope of the research were at the middle level of both the general level of the scale and its sub-dimensions, which are the attitude, technical, cognitive and social dimensions. In addition, students' digital literacy levels differ significantly according to gender, program type, whether they have a continuous internet connection, mother and father's education level, the type of high school the student graduated from and the time spent on the internet.

Üniversite Öğrencilerinin Dijital Okuryazarlık Düzeylerinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Günümüzde dijital araçlar ve bunların kullanımı hem iş hayatında hem de günlük hayatta oldukça yaygın hale gelmiştir. Özellikle iş dünyasında dijital araçların etkin bir şekilde kullanımı adaylarda aranan temel kriterler arasında yer almaktadır. Bu bağlamda değerlendirildiğinde bireylerin dijital araçları kullanabilme, anlayabilme ve kendini geliştirme becerileri dijital çağın bir gerekliliği olarak dijital okuryazarlık kavramının önemini ortaya koymaktadır. Dolayısıyla bu çalışmanın amacı meslek yüksekokulu öğrencilerinin dijital okuryazarlık düzeylerini çeşitli faktörlerle birlikte incelemektir. Çalışmanın örneklemini Altıntaş Meslek Yüksekokulu’nda okuyan öğrenciler oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada Ng (2012)’nin geliştirdiği ve Hamutoğlu vd. (2017)’nin Türkçe’ye uyarladığı “Dijital Okuryazarlık” ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde SPSS 26.0 ve LİSREL paket programlarından yararlanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda araştırma kapsamına dahil edilen öğrencilerin dijital okuryazarlık düzeyleri hem ölçeğin genel düzeyi hem de alt boyutları olan tutum, teknik, bilişsel ve sosyal boyutunun ortaya düzeyde olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca öğrencilerin dijital okuryazarlık düzeyleri, cinsiyete, program türüne, sürekli internet bağlantısı olup olmamasına, anne ve baba eğitim durumuna, öğrencinin mezun olduğu lise türüne ve internette geçirilen süreye göre anlamlı olarak farklılaşmaktadır.
