Estimating Elasticities with the Almost Ideal Demand System: Turkey Results
Abstract
In this study, data of the household income and consumption expenditure surveys conducted by the Turkish Statistical Institute for 2003 year were used; price elasticity under twelve product groups were estimated within the framework of the almost ideal demand system approach in Turkey was analyzed. Price elasticities were obtained and the product groups were as follows: Food and non-alcoholic beverages; Alcoholic beverages, cigaratte and tobacco; Clothing and footwear; Housing and rent; Furniture, houses appliances and home care services; Health; Transportation; Communication; Entertainment and culture; Educational services; Restaurant and hotels and various good and services.
