Abstract

Anatheism is a concept that expresses returning to God after God. It is the result of the oncern to bring God back into our lives in response to the discomfort that emerged after the disenchantment of the world and the desacralization of society. In anatheism, the prominent theme is to bring God back into our lives by tryng to see the manifestation of the sacred in others. As the basis for this claim, Kearney proposes a new conception of God. Accordingly, God is thought of not as a being (esse) but as a possibility of being (posse). Thus creating space for human freedom of action and turning the problem of evil into a human issue rather than being divine. In this way, evil is not within the scope of God's will, but is seen as the erasure of the trace of the sacred from our lives. What Kearney advocates is to pave the groundwork for hospitality towards others and to bring God back into our lives through the daily Eucharist, that is, sharing our bread with others. In this study, the new concept of God in the context of the concept of anatheism, how and in what way this God will return to our lives, and the relationship of this return with the hospitality we will show to otherness will be discussed. In this context, the opportunities and problems offered by anatheism will be discussed. Our study will primarily discuss the issue based on Richard Kearney's two works adressing these claims but it will also reference Kearney's other works and different views on this subject when relevant.

Tanrı’nın Geri Dönüşü: Richard Kearney’in Anateizm Kavramı Üzerine Bir İnceleme

Year 2024, Volume: 11 Issue: 2, 887 - 905, 15.09.2024
