Abstract

Abstract

The concept of “Phubbing” has been added to the literature in recent years as people interacting with their smartphones while talking face to face, in the context of the use of technology and its reflection on human life. This study aimed to reveal the Phubbing behaviors of college students within the framework of their gender, university and department. The study is a screening model of qualitative research methods. In this context, 10 students from Uşak University Guidance and Psychological Counseling Department and 10 students from Munzur University Child Development Department were selected in the study to ensure participation at every grade level and voluntarily. In order to determine the Phubbing behaviors of college students and their exposure to phubbing, data were collected by asking 10 semi-structured questions to the participants. According to the data obtained, college students stated that they logged into their social media accounts from their smartphones when they invited their friends to meet outside and when they were with their friends. The participants stated that they noticed that another friend focused on their phone and did not listen to what was being said during face-to-face meetings, in other words, they were engaging in Phubbing behavior.
