Abstract

Mersin University Education Faculty first grade students’ foreign language learning attitudes towards English courses and foreign language classroom anxiety levels were examined in terms of several variables in this research..It is aimed to obtain the problems that students face while learning the foreign language the education faculty and to develop solution offers for those problems

EĞİTİM FAKÜLTESİNDE YABANCI DİL DERSİ ALAN ÖĞRENCİLERİN YABANCI DİL DERSİNE YÖNELİK TUTUMLARININ VE SINIF KAYGILARININ İNCELENMESİ

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Mersin Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi’nde yabancı dil dersi alan 1. sınıf öğrencilerinin İngilizce dersine yönelik tutumları ve yabancı dil sınıf kaygısı düzeyleri çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelenmiştir. Yapılan çalışma ile eğitim fakültesi öğrencilerinin yabancı dil öğrenme sürecinde karşılaştıkları sorunların tespit edilmesi ve bu sorunlara yönelik çözüm önerileri geliştirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.

Çalışmada geçmişte ya da hâlen var olan bir durumu var olduğu şekliyle betimlemeyi amaçlayan tarama (survey) modeli kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın evrenini Mersin Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesinde 2013 -2014 Eğitim öğretim yılında yabancı dil dersi alan 280 1. sınıf öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen “Kişisel Bilgi Formu” ve “Açık Uçlu Sorular Formu” ile Aydoslu (2005) tarafından geliştirilen “İngilizce Dersine Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği” , Horwitz, Horwitz ve Cope (1986) tarafından geliştirilen ve Türkçe uyarlaması Aydın (1999) tarafından yapılan “Yabancı Dil Sınıf Kaygısı Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır.

Bu çalışmanın sonunda Eğitim fakültesinde yabancı dil dersi alan 1. Sınıf öğrencilerinin; İngilizce dersine karşı olumlu tutuma sahip oldukları ancak kaygı düzeylerinin yüksek olduğu görülmüştür. Özellikle anne - baba eğitim düzeylerinin öğrencilerin yabancı dil sınıf kaygısını etkilediği, anne – baba eğitim düzeyi düşük olanların daha çok kaygı duyduğu tespit edilmiştir. Son olarak, öğrencilerin İngilizce dersine yönelik tutumları ile yabancı dil sınıf kaygıları arasında anlamlı bir ilişki olmadığı görülmüştür.
