Abstract

Abstract

"Cinderella Syndrome", which expresses women who are afraid of independence, appears as a concept that shows that women are psychologically dependent and waiting to be rescued by a man one day despite the negativities they experience. In this study, it was aimed to examine Cinderella Syndrome in terms of attachment styles. 431 adult women over the age of 25 participated in this correlational survey study, which was reached by convenient sampling method. Data were collected through the “Cinderella Syndrome Scale” and the “Three-Dimensional Attachment Styles Scale”. According to the findings, it was determined that all sub-dimensions of Cinderella syndrome were positively correlated with avoidant and anxious attachment styles. These two attachment styles explain 6.4% of Cinderella syndrome. The quitting the career scores of women whose parents are separated and whose parents have died are significantly higher than those whose parents are together. It was determined that university graduates had a lower level of Cinderella Syndrome. The results were interpreted by considering the relationship between attachment styles and gender roles, which seem to be related to Cinderella Syndrome.
