In our country, the production of durum wheat to meet the needs of the pasta and durum wheat industry is insufficient. In order to meet this need, durum wheat is imported even though it changes according to years. Gaziantep, which is selected as a study area, is an important province in terms of durum wheat production and industry. Increasing the durum wheat production in Gaziantep will contribute to the development of pasta and bulgur industry and export of pasta products. Determination of sampling, the sample size was determined by considering the land size. Stratified random sampling was used. The sample size was calculated as 240. The primary data were collected through the survey. The secondary data were obtained from institutions. The relationships between the socio-economic variables of the farmers and durum wheat production were examined by chi-square test.
According to the results of the research; 70.1% of the producers stated that wheat prices were determined before sowing, 66.7% of the producers stated that durum wheat production was profitable from other crops, and 18.5% of the producers stated that production would increase when prevention of marketing deficiencies occurred. As a result of statistical analysis, it was found that there is a significant relationship between durum wheat production and non-agricultural income, total net income, land width and crop prices. It was determined that bread wheat and barley cultivation were substituted for decreasing durum wheat cultivation areas. As a result of the shift of durum wheat production into irrigated areas, significant increases in yield were determined. As a result, the fact that the gross production value obtained from other crops is higher than durum wheat production and the determination of durum wheat price is determined as the most important factors affecting the production decision.
