The Mediating Role of Short Video Addiction in the Relationship between Mindful Awareness and Phubbing among Midwifery Students

Abstract

This study investigated whether short video addiction mediates the relationship between phubbing and mindful awareness among midwifery students. The study included 255 midwifery students who met the criteria and consented to participate. Data were collected using a Descriptive Information Form, the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, the Short Video Addiction Scale, and the Generic Scale of Phubbing. The findings demonstrated statistically significant weak negative correlations between mindful awareness and both short video addiction and phubbing, whereas a statistically significant moderate positive correlation was identified between short video addiction and phubbing (p<0.05). The mediating role of phubbing in the relationship between mindful awareness and phubbing was found to be moderate. Additionally, 21.4% of the variance in students short video addiction scores was explained by phubbing scores, whereas only 6.8% of the variance in mindful awareness levels was explained by short video addiction and phubbing. The study found that phubbing had a direct effect on mindful awareness . As mindful awareness increased, both phubbing behavior and short video addiction decreased. These findings suggest that interventions aimed at enhancing mindful awareness among students may make a significant contribution to reducing short video addiction and phubbing behaviors
