Abstract

Sistematik derleme niteliğinde olan bu çalışma Kasım 2019-Ocak 2020 tarihleri arasında “Father’s birth experiences, experiences of parents, experiences of parents at childbirth” anahtar kelimeleri kullanılarak Science Direct, Pubmed, Google scholar veri tabanı taranarak yapılmıştır.

Year 2022, Volume: 31 Issue: 2, 249 - 257, 11.08.2022

Abstract

Fathers' participation in the birth is an important event that facilitates the transition to parenthood and increases the interaction with their spouse and baby. Knowing the experiences of fathers at birth is very important for other fathers who want to participate in childbirth and formed wifery care. The aim of this research is to present the results of the research on the experiences of the fathers who have participated in the birth. This study, which is a systematic review, was conducted between November 2019 and January 2020, using the keywords "Father's birth experiences, experiences of parents, experiences of parents at childbirth" by searching Science Direct, Pubmed, and Google scholar databases. This study included 17 studies published in English, open to full-text access, covering the birth experiences of fathers who had participated in the childbirth. It was found that fathers experienced feelings of fear, nervousness, helplessness, confusion, anxiety, and restlessness at birth, as well as emotions such as excitement, pride and happiness. Prenatal education, being informed during the birth process, taking a supportive role and responsibility, and midwife support in home birth and vaginal births had a positive effect on the birth experience of fathers. It was emphasized that the role of midwives is important for fathers to cope with the negative emotions they experience at birth, toprovide adequate support to their spouses, and to have a positive birth experience.
