Non-ethical Behaviours That Exists in the Relationship Between Postgraduate Students and Their Advisors

Abstract

In fact, while the postgraduate counseling is critical to the professional development of the student, along with the emotional and psychological status of them, the courses that have to be carried out, the obligation to have the requirements for appointment and promotion, and administrative tasks leads to some negligence or abuse in fulfilling the postgraduate counseling requirements. For this reason, consultancy ethics, one of the professional parts of ethics, has an important place in academics.In this respect, the purpose of this study is to reveal unethical behaviours in the relationship with the advisor and their postgraduate level students.Ten students comprised of master and doctorate voluntarily participated this research designed by qualitative research approach and case study pattern.The research data were obtained from semi-structured interviews form. Content analysis was used to explain the data. A total of 3 themes were reached: attitudes and behaviors, professional responsibility and scientific deception and exploitation.

Lisansüstü Eğitimde Öğrencilerin Danışmanı İle Olan İlişkilerinde Yaşadıkları Etik Dışı Davranışlar / Non-ethical Behaviours That Exists in the Relationship Between Postgraduate Students and Their Advisors

Abstract

Lisansüstü düzeyde danışmanlık öğrencinin duygusal ve psikolojik durumu ile birlikte mesleki gelişimi özelinde kritik bir önem taşımakta iken, yürütülmek zorunda olan dersler, atanma ve yükselme koşullarını yerine getirme zorunluluğu ve idari görevler lisansüstü danışmanlık gerekliliklerini yerine getirmede bir takım ihmal ya da suiistimalleri doğurmaktadır. Bu nedenle etik konusunun en çok ele alındığı ve tartışıldığı meslek gruplarından biri olan akademisyenlikte danışmanlık etiği önemli bir yere sahiptir.Bu çalışmanın amacı lisansüstü düzeyde öğrenim gören öğrencilerin danışmanı ile olan ilişkilerinde etik dışı davranışlar olarak nitelendirdiği davranışları ortaya çıkarmaktır.Nitel araştırma yaklaşımı ve durum çalışması desenin kullanıldığı araştırmaya 5 farklı üniversiteden 1 yüksek lisans ve 9 doktora öğrencisi olmak üzere toplam 10 (6 erkek, 4 kadın)öğrenci gönüllü olarak katılmıştır. Katılımcıların belirlenmesinde amaçlı örnekleme türlerinden kartopu örnekleme stratejisi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma verileri yarı-yapılandırılmış görüşme formları ile elde edilmiştir. Veriler içerik analizi ile çözümlenmiştir. Tutum ve davranışlar, mesleki sorumluluk,bilimsel yanıltma ve faydalanma olmak üzere toplam 3 temaya ulaşılmıştır.
