EVALUATION OF INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP ROLES ACCORDING TO TEACHER AND ADMINISTRATOR PERCEPTIONS

Abstract

The primary aim of this research is to comparatively determine the extent to which school administrators perform instructional leadership behaviors based on the perceptions of teachers and administrators. Employing a general survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, the study’s sample consists of teachers and school administrators working at various levels in the province of Kastamonu. The "Instructional Leadership Rating Scale (Short Form)," originally developed by Hallinger and Murphy (1985) and adapted into Turkish by Bellibaş et al. (2016), was used as the data collection tool. Descriptive statistics, such as frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, and standard deviation, were utilized in the data analysis. The research findings indicate that school administrators generally exhibit instructional leadership roles at a "high" level and possess the highest proficiency in the "Defining the School Mission" dimension. In contrast, "Managing the Instructional Program" dimension was identified as the area where leaders showed the lowest performance. As a result of the analyses, it was determined that there is no statistically significant difference between teacher and administrator perceptions regarding the instructional leadership behaviors of school administrators.
