General Rules for Manuscripts

The general rules to be followed in submitted articles are as follows:

Turkish Article Title

14-point, bold, centered, and only the first letters capitalized

Author Name(s)

14-point, italic, centered, and only the first letters capitalized

Abstract (Özet)

Manuscripts submitted to the journal must include a Turkish “Özet” consisting of 300–500 words.
All abstracts must be written in Palatino Linotype, 10-point font, single-spaced, with 6 nk spacing before and 0 nk after paragraphs.
Both the Özet and Abstract must consist of a single paragraph.

If the study includes data requiring ethics committee approval (such as surveys or interviews) and these data were obtained within the last five years, ethics committee approval is mandatory.
If the data were obtained five years ago or earlier, the date of data collection must be stated in the abstract.
If the data were collected within the last five years and ethics approval was obtained, the abstract must include a statement such as:
“… ethics committee approval was obtained in accordance with the decision dated … and numbered … of the … Ethics Committee.”

Abstract
English Article Title

12-point, bold, justified, and only the first letters capitalized

Manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with this template. Articles submitted without using the template or without complying with the specified rules will be rejected.
An English translation of the Turkish “Özet” (300–500 words) must be included in this section.

All submitted manuscripts must include:

A Turkish Özet (300–500 words),

An English Abstract (300–500 words),

Keywords / Anahtar Sözcükler (3–5 words).

All abstracts must be written in Palatino Linotype, 10-point font, single-spaced, with 6 nk spacing before and 0 nk after paragraphs, and must consist of one paragraph only.

Keywords: word 1, word 2, word 3 (3–5 words)

WRITING RULES
Introduction

(Headings must be 12-point, bold, left-aligned, with only the first letters capitalized, and must not be numbered.)

Manuscripts must be written in Microsoft Word format and must not exceed 8 MB.

The main text must be written in Palatino Linotype, 11-point font, single-spaced, with 1.25 cm paragraph indentation, and 6 nk spacing before and 0 nk after paragraphs.

No additional spacing should be left between paragraphs.

Page margins must be 2.5 cm on all sides.

The manuscript (excluding References, Abstract, and Özet), including footnotes, must not exceed 8,000 words.

Except for the main title, the entire text must be left-aligned, with 1.25 cm paragraph indentation, and no extra spacing between paragraphs.

Subheadings

Only the first letters should be capitalized and subheadings must not be numbered.

Subheadings must be written in Palatino Linotype, 12-point font, bold, single-spaced, left-aligned, with 1.25 cm indentation, and 6 nk spacing before and 0 nk after.

Language and Style

Turkish spelling, punctuation, and abbreviations must follow the most recent Turkish Language Association (TDK) spelling guide and dictionary.

Subheadings must be bold and left-aligned.

Only double quotation marks may be used for emphasis. Avoid single quotation marks, bold, ALL CAPS, underlining, or italics for emphasis.

Foreign words, proper names, and technical terms should be written only in italics.

If a foreign-language equivalent of a Turkish word is provided for clarification, it must be written in italics within parentheses.

Titles of Works

Titles of long works (books, journals, newspapers, encyclopedias, brochures, novels, plays, films) must be written in italics.

Titles of short works (poems, short stories, articles, book chapters, letters, speeches) must be written in double quotation marks.

Italics and quotation marks must not be used together.

Consistency must be maintained in special cases not covered above.

Tables, Figures, and Visuals

Table content must be written in Palatino Linotype, 10-point font, single-spaced.

Tables must fit within page margins.

Table titles must be written above the table, bold, 12-point, numbered, and with capitalized initial letters.

Example:
Table 1. Table Title with Initial Letters Capitalized (12 pt)

All visuals (tables, maps, figures) must follow the same captioning format.

In-Text Citations

Manuscripts submitted to FABRİKA_KUN Journal of Art, Design, and Space must follow MLA (Modern Language Association) 7th Edition, adapted to Turkish syntax and punctuation rules.

Citations include the author’s surname and page number(s).

If no author is available, the title of the work is used.

If page numbers are unavailable, the abbreviation “sy” (no page) is used.

Authors with the same surname must be distinguished by initials.

Multiple sources are cited as: (Burke 3–6; Dewey 21, 97).

References to notes are indicated by adding the note number after a period.

Short quotations (up to four lines) are placed within quotation marks in the text.
Long quotations (more than four lines) are formatted as block quotations with specific indentation rules.

Footnotes

Footnotes should be used only for additional explanations.
Abbreviations should be used only in footnotes, references, and parenthetical expressions.

References

The References section must include only sources cited in the text.

All sources must be listed accurately and completely.

Entries must follow MLA 7th Edition formatting rules.

Formatting rules include:

Hanging indentation (1.25 cm),

Alphabetical order by author surname,

Turkish localization of editorial roles, publication details, and city names where applicable.

Ethics Committee Approval

Ethics committee approval is required for data collected in 2020 or later.

For data collected before 2020, retroactive approval is not required, but the data collection date must be stated.

If ethics approval exists, the abstract and methods section must include a statement confirming approval.

Additionally, authors must confirm:

Informed consent for case studies,

Permission for using scales, surveys, or images belonging to others,

Compliance with copyright regulations.

Other Sources

For source types not specified here, MLA 7th Edition guidelines must be followed, taking into account the principles outlined in this guide.
